Dairy cattle’s burps and farts account for 14 per cent of global warming gases.
Cows are ruminants with multi-chambered stomachs, which help digest food through fermentation and are full of methane creating bacteria.
Each day a cow can produce 160 litres to 320 litres of the gas, which has 28 times the global warming potential of CO2.
Scientists are locating those cows that produce the least amount of methane and they will breed them into existing herds.
Experts are also testing fart-free feed.
Obviously the cows featured in the videos below were NOT fed that fart-free food. Hold your nose and enjoy some footage.
