Happy National Nurse's Day!

Medics Cycle To Hospitals Amid Transport Shutdowns

Today, May 12th is International Nurses Day! As National Nurses Day is the first day of Nurses Week (which begins each year on May 6th) May 12th closes with International Nurses Day. This day honors the woman considered the mother of nursing – Florence Nightingale – on the anniversary her birth. Here are a few fun facts:

  • The nursing profession is OLD. The first record of nurses dates all the back to 300 A.D. in the Roman Empire. Yes, there were primitive hospitals back then, and nurses played an important part.
  • There are 3 million nurses in American… that’s the total population of Los Angeles…but we need more. US News and World Report says 3 of the 25 best jobs are nurses, with Nurse Practitioner at #4. Those numbers are projected to grow 15% in the next five years.
  • Nurses walk 4 to 5 miles a day in a 12 hour shift. By comparison, the average American walks about 2.5 miles in an 18 hour day.
  • Some places with special deals for Nurses through today 5/12 include: IHOP, Cinnabon, Jimmy John’s and Red Lobster.
